Three students from West Side Christian School (Braelyn Allen, Pierce Willett, and Jill Wooten) participated in this year’s Extreme Leadership Bootcamp which was held Saturday, October 10, at the El Dorado Boys’ and Girls’ Club. The day began with a light breakfast followed by a welcome from A J Kemp, eXtreme director, who also introduced the other leaders, advisors, and volunteers. Student members from Barton, EHS, Parkers Chapel, Smackover, Strong, and West Side were then divided into three groups. Each group rotated through three sessions about brain health, physical safety, and mental health. After lunch (provided by volunteers), students were introduced to members of the National Guard Drug Task Force who led sessions covering the dangers of drinking and driving, planning ahead for difficult situations, and developing strategies of team cooperation in an exciting dodge ball game! The day ended with a presentation by the National Guard about the dangers of vaping. During breaks throughout the day, students from different schools visited with each other, participated in games like pool and basketball, and even got a line dance going. It was a fun, educational day where students from across school districts made new friends and learned valuable skills to help them build healthy habits they can continue the rest of their lives.
